Editorial methodology and corrections

How LevyTrack turns changing public guidance into practical, source-backed information for Scottish accommodation providers.

Primary sources first

We prioritise legislation, council scheme documents, council business guidance, Scottish Government and VisitScotland publications, visitorlevy.scot documentation, and first-party platform guidance. Secondary commentary is used only for context.

Dates and uncertainty

Time-sensitive pages show a last-verified date. Confirmed rules are distinguished from proposals, provisional details and LevyTrack's practical interpretation. Council-specific guidance takes priority over general summaries.

Worked examples

Examples state their assumptions and are designed to explain a rule, not predict every tax or legal outcome. Money calculations are kept separate from VAT advice and official filing responsibility.

Review and corrections

Material levy pages are reviewed by the LevyTrack editorial team after publication and when official guidance changes. We correct substantive errors promptly and update the verified or modified date where the change affects the guidance.

Report a correction

If you spot an outdated rule, broken source or calculation issue, send the page URL and the supporting official source through our contact form. Choose a clear subject such as “Editorial correction”.
